Consecration to St Joseph’ a Great Success!

Above: Matthew-Hermann Tague is the host for the Consecration to St Joseph

The ‘Consecration to St Joseph’ has been a great success this year. We have been journeying for 33 days, leading up to the feast of ‘Christ the King’. Our daily guests have led not only a Rosary, but also the reading from ‘The Glories of St Joseph’ and the consecration prayers. Matthew-Hermann Tague has been our daily host and has worked tirelessly, leading the live sessions for the zoom group and also uploading the recordings for everyone to see in their own time. We have had a great response and I want to thank all those who have joined us.

Above: Some of the special guests that have joined us for the consecration

We have had participants from all over the world. People have joined us from countries as far and wide as Trinidad, Malta, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, the USA and Australia, just to name a few. Our guests have included some of our favourite international presenters. We have been joined by Sonja Corbitt, Fr Robert Spitzer, Allan Smith, Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, Shawna Arnold, Christopher Carstens and many others. Participants of the live zoom recordings have enjoyed some private time with these guests having conversations and asking questions directly. This has been one of the unique aspects of the platform ‘Parousia World‘, with a live audience in our zoom recordings. If you missed this consecration, you can see all of the videos on our YouTube channel and also inside of ‘Parousia World‘. Let’s turn to St Joseph as we conclude the year dedicated to him. St Joseph, Terror of Demons, pray for us!

Advent Pilgrimage Back Again, But A Little Different This Year!

If you remember last year’s Advent Pilgrimage, we had a great lineup of biblical teachers. Each one shared on a different chapter of Salvation History, taking us on a journey from Eden to Bethlehem. This year, we will once again be making those Salvation History videos free for the duration of the Advent Season. In addition to this, we will also be reading the reflections from Chris Stefanick’s popular book ‘Joy to the World’. Just like the recent prayer campaigns, we will be having live zoom recordings inside of ‘Parousia World’ with our guests. Chris Stefanick, himself will be joining us for one of the days, along with some wonderful presenters throughout. We have also teamed up with Allan Smith from ‘Bishop Sheen Today’ who will be sharing his advent reflections, based on the writings of venerable Fulton Sheen. The pilgrimage is free and, as with the recent events, all the action will happen inside ‘Parousia World’ so please register there to join us. I wish you a blessed Advent.

Brand New Parousia Podcast Series!

This month we launched a brand new Parousia Podcast series called ‘Speakin’ with Deacon‘, with hosts Mark Griffin and Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers. This promises to be an exciting series, where Mark and Deacon Harold will have topical conversations on the faith and the culture today. They will cover a wide range of topics, with episodes to be released monthly. This month, in Episode One, the topic of discussion was ‘Go and Make Disciples’. This was premiered on our YouTube channel and is now uploaded to all the major podcast Apps, as well as our very own website. Look out for next month’s show!

Deacon Harold has been busy at Parousia, as he also joined Matthew-Hermann Tague on the ‘Parousia World Spotlight‘ series, talking about ‘Ephesians: Chapter 5‘. This is that well-known passage that is often read at weddings. Also this month, Matthew interviewed Dr Robert Haddad in his series called ‘Defend the Faith Live‘. A very interesting topic this month on how to interpret Adam and Eve and the creation account in Genesis. Both episodes were recorded live in Parousia World with a studio audience via zoom. The participants were able to interact with Deacon Harold and Robert following the recordings, for Q&A and general discussion.

Narrow Gate Blog

I hope you have been enjoying the different ‘Narrow Gate Blog‘ posts we have been sharing this month. We had an article on Purgatory by Catholic Answers apologist Karlo Broussard and a couple of articles by Dr Scott Hahn. The most recent article I want to highlight is one of Dr Hahn’s Sunday Bible Reflection posts. This month we have uploaded his article about the feast of ‘Christ the King‘. A new Narrow Gate Blog article is uploaded weekly, so look out for those!

Also, on the topic of ‘Christ the King’ and November feasts, please look out for a brand new release, featured on our video platform ‘Parousia on Demand‘. It is the movie ‘Padre Pro‘, on the life of Blessed Miguel Pro, who famously appears in a photo with his arms outstretched as the Mexican soldiers kill him by firing squad. At the moment of these shootings he shouted with a loud voice ‘Viva Cristo Rey’, which is Spanish for ‘Long Live Christ the King’. Amen!

Blessed Miguel Pro’s feast is November 23.

As we conclude another month I want to thank you all again for your prayers and support. Please keep them coming. We are always in need of both spiritual support and financial. I also want to wish you all a blessed Advent season.

God Bless

Prison Journal, Volume 3: The High Court Frees an Innocent Man – George Cardinal Pell (Paperback)

Innocent! That final verdict came after George Cardinal Pell endured a grueling four years of accusations, investigations, trials, public humiliations, and more than a year of imprisonment after being convicted by an Australian court of a crime he did not commit.

Led off to jail in handcuffs, following his sentencing on March 13, 2019, the 78-year-old Australian prelate began what was meant to be six years in jail for “historical sexual assault offenses”. Cardinal Pell endured more than thirteen months in solitary confinement, before the Australian High Court voted 7-0 to overturn his original convictions. His victory over injustice was not just personal, but one for the entire Catholic Church.

Bearing no ill will toward his accusers, judges, prison workers, journalists, and those harboring and expressing hatred for him, the cardinal used his time in prison as a kind of “extended retreat”. He eloquently filled notebook pages with his spiritual insights, prison experiences, and personal reflections on current events both inside and outside the Church, as well as moving prayers.

In this third and final volume, Cardinal Pell’s conviction is overturned by Australia’s High Court, and he is released from prison. As the appeal draws near, he grows in confidence that his case is strong and that his vindication is important not only for his own sake and the Church’s sake, but also for the sake of Australia’s legal system. While continuing his daily readings and devotions, and receiving hundreds of letters with offers of prayers and sacrifices on his behalf, the Cardinal ponders the meaning of suffering in the life of the Christian, and he determines to accept with equanimity whatever outcome lies ahead.

The Papacy: What the Pope Does and Why it Matters – Stephen K. Ray & R. Dennis Walters (Paperback)

The Papacy explains that without the Pope’s divinely guided leadership, the Church would suffer the contradictions and the divisions that many Christian groups know firsthand. The teaching passed down from the apostles would be subject to arbitrary, relative, and numerous interpretations; holiness would be only a distant ideal; and the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church founded by Jesus would break apart.

In describing the Pope’s important and singular role as leader and teacher, the book addresses common misconceptions and objections to the papacy. It also explains how the papacy developed and how the Pope is elected.

The authors present some great Popes in history, showing the qualities and the accomplishments that made them great. They demonstrate that the Pope is important not only for Catholics, but also for non-Catholic Christians and even non-Christians.

Waiting for the Lord

Dr James Prothro (CD)

Advent is a time for patience and awaiting the coming of the Lord. While waiting may be difficult to do, Dr. Prothro explains that it is the best way to prepare and what God truly wants from us during this time.  Patience is the penance that we need in order to fully prepare for God and this holy season. This exciting new talk explores different ways that we can prepare our hearts for the coming of the Lord this Advent season.

Light From Darkness: Nine Times the Church was in Turmoil, and Came Out Stronger Than Before – Steve Weidenkopf (Paperback)

Ask Catholics about the crisis in the Church today and you’ll often get one of two responses: The end is upon us! or Everything’s fine—the Holy Spirit is in charge!

Neither of those attitudes makes sense from the perspective of history, says Steve Weidenkopf (author of ‘The Real Story of Catholic History’).

In his new book, Light from Darkness, Weidenkopf shows how the Church’s past ages were no less tumultuous than our own. Yet, whether it was decadent hierarchs selling out the Faith for pleasure and power, or hostile princes, heresies, or ideologies (sometimes all three at once) menacing Christendom, the Catholic Church not only persisted during hard times but came through them stronger than before.

In each case, though, Weidenkopf demonstrates how the Church’s survival was not an accident or a last-minute miracle. Instead, good Catholics (lay and clergy alike) cooperated with God’s grace to beat back error and corruption and reform the house of God from within. They resisted the twin temptations of cynical schism and Pollyanna passivism and went to work—first in their own hearts—bringing good out of evil, light from darkness.

These nine inspiring stories of crisis and reform should give all Catholics today reason for hope—and a model to follow as we deal with the trials that God has permitted in our own time.

“History gives us every reason to hope, because our God is the Lord of History. This book is the case for confidence. In its pages we see the pattern of salvation in every age. The Church and the faith have outlived many persecutors, many enemies within, and many ‘invincible’ empires. The future looks brighter the more we look back. To be deep in history is to be deep in hope.” – Mike Aquilina, Executive vice-president, St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology
